Eye Disorders for Kids
Knowing at this time that our kids are now prone to eye disorders for kids, why? There are plenty of computer games, play stations, game boy, PSP, and now DS that can cause eye disorders for kids. In fact some of these eye disorders for kids may cause permanent eye damage and blindness-if left untreated.
Usually, my kids cannot tell if their vision is poor. As a mother, I need to be watchful for signs that my kids were having trouble in seeing to avoid eye disorders for kids. I notice them that sometimes they are frequent in blinking or rubbing their eyes, an abnormal position while looking at the television or to any object, or a white spot in the eyeball.
Any of these signs may indicate that my kid is visually impaired. So I decided to see a pediatric ophthalmologist as soon as possible, I am very much aware that eye disorders for kids they must have eye check up as early as possible so that they could save their eyes from serious disorders.
Here are common pediatric eye disorders;
· Lazy eye – one of the most serious eye disorders for kids, treatable only until the age of 7. Poor vision even with correct eyeglasses. Treatment consists of proper use of glasses and eye patching. After the age of 7 the eye disorders for kids become s permanent.
· Misalignment of the eyes – characterized by a squint or crossed eyes or what we called in Filipino language (duling). The treatment consists of using eye glasses or surgery.
Retinopathy of prematurely – This affects premature babies. Abnormal blood vessels and tissue grow over the retina. The part of the eyes that captures visual images and sends them into the brain, Treated with laser therapy or surgery, early detection and prompt intervention is a must.
I advice to my fellow parents to take good care of our kids and visit an eye doctor for a check up before school starts to save our children’s future and to prevent also the eye for eye disorders for kids.
