How to Teach Your Children the Importance of Money
Who among us would like to see their children grow up to be financially responsible? Every parent does. We all desire to see our children our children become financially independent someday on adulthood, and able to provide for their own families and secure tier future.
Learning to be financially responsible dies not happen overnight. It is the best way to start while our children are still young, with something as simple as talking them to save or bank their money for the future.
Here are simple tips on how we can help our children the value or the importance of money:
1. Talk about what is for. Small kids may think that money just comes out from the ATM or wallet that is for buying candies. Discuss them that money is for buying for family needs. Tell them also that money is earned and parents work hard to earn money.
2. Since money is hard to earn, families should prioritize paying for their needs first, like food, clothing, tuition fees, transportation, electricity and other monthly important bills. We must tell our children that this is why a budget is necessary; we must prioritize the monthly expense rather than buying unimportant things.
3. Give an allowance. Since people learn by application than by studying the theory, allow our children to learn money matters the practical way, by giving them an allowance. The purpose of giving them an allowance is to teach kids that they can use their money in two ways, either save or spend. And they will find out that if they save, they have more money for tomorrow. By spending they will also learn to choose items carefully. The more expensive item will use up more of their money, leaving them with less. And if they choose the cheaper items, they will have more money left.
These are simple tips on how to teach our children save money for the future and lean the true value and importance of money in our daily living.
