How to Become Real Parents

Today, we are living in the world of high technology, wherever we go computers, cell phones are around us which makes our lives go easy not like before and we are influenced by modernization. If we take a look at the situation of today, there are many broken families that are suffering their lives. Are all of these families are safe from the control of prohibited drugs, sex or pornography? Can the church combat, on its own, the evils that lurk in our society? Unless we are parent in the real sense of the world, our sons and daughters will yield to all of these temptations.

In our day today living, we the parents should be patient, devoted, hard working and responsible to our children and to our family as well. Gone were the days that we are strict parent guaranteed an obedient child? The trend now for us parents is to learn how to raise our children in this modern world, without controlling the creativity or curiosity of our children.

We must be a good example to our children. Our children will notice the discrepancy between what we say and what we do. We must show to them that we respect our husband and wife so that we will be respected also by our children. If we do not want our child to smoke and we are smokers better try to quit smoking right away. Do not be the preacher who does not do what he says.

When we get married we are not working only for our selves or for our spouse, we are doing our job also to our children. It is not enough that we shower them material things; they need our love and understanding also. Give them what they need, but we need not to spoil them. Discipline also is very important. It is not enough to whip or spank them whenever they commit mistakes. The bottom line in discipline is getting our message across to them. We will tell them why we don’t want them to do those silly things. Our children should understand why it is not proper to misbehave, little by little our message to them will be stored in their minds and we can notice that there are changes in their daily attitudes.

As parents it is important also that we must be patient with them, because children are inquisitive; they are full of questions to ask. Also they are very active, if we have a short temper we should not be married because patience is the key to a happy and intelligent child. If we have enough budgets we better provide them a home where they can find happiness and contentment. There is a song which goes like this, “A house is not a home” meaning it is not only a place where we are protected from the extreme heat of the sun or heavy downpour of the rain. A home is where we sleep, eat and rest and where happiness and contentment dwell also it is our place of refuge when we have problems and a place where whole family stay together happily and harmoniously.

With our children sometimes communication gaps can’t be avoided, but we need to avoid it if we will keep an open line. If possible we need not to monopolize the discussion, give them a chance to talk so that we have a good communication with each other and we can open up what we both want to say and to express our ideas and emotions. One thing more we must be faithfully interested in our children’s undertaking and be generous with our support for them. If they have accomplishments, even if it simple it should be appreciated by us, in that way they are also inspired. We must help them wherever they need us.

Even though we are very busy with our everyday life, we should find time to be wit them. Make our child rearing a happy activity on our part, if possible we must engage worthwhile activities together with our children so make bonding also even for a short time.

Being real parents to our children is the most challenging and rewarding task that we can engage in, By using our common sense and adopting our rule being parents we can be sure that we are parents in the real sense of the world.
