Story Telling for Growing Children

Do you tell stories to your growing children? Or do you take pains of reading good stories for children then telling stories to the best way you can? I think a number of mothers or parents have already forgotten the very interesting and effective device in creating our children appreciation of literature and enjoying their younger age together with their parents.

There are some parents’ thinks that they are old enough in reading stories about pets, folktales, simple adventures, bundles of surprises and pretty plots of childhood games and fun. Some of us believe that story telling is a waste of time and effort that could be better spent in other important matters or worse to be done inside home activities. These wrong opinions of some parents need attention and correction. Telling stories especially to growing children is a phrase of teaching that should have a define place in the rather over crowded reading program. No parents or teachers should deny that the importance of this feature nor should be too busy to neglect phrase of work because telling stories serves our children much more than merely giving them the rich and wholesome entertainment.

Furthermore, storytelling enriches and expands our children experiences in school and in our homes. It introduces them to stories that have true to life worth. It arouses I them to read stories as interesting as the ones they heard from us. It sets for them a pattern for effective story telling. I make them also appreciate the value of well chosen words, good pronunciation and proper expression in story telling. It is also one way of feeling that our children are also our best friend.

This is a good benefit to our children from the parents story telling. It becomes a latter’s business to read children’s literature. Select good stories and practice telling them well. Have it plated in our minds especially parents that a story well told will live in our children’s memory long after preaching, threats and warnings have been forgotten. How many of our grown ups children or even young graduates of today tae the pains of reminiscing over their school and younger days, ever so fondly repeating the incidents of the stories that their parents told them. I think none ne at all can recall the stories and incidents their parents once told them.
